A Visual Journey Through the Word of God

 The actual Bible Exhibition will be uploaded next, in order of panels, but this will also be interspersed with other artefacts from the exhibition for interests sake. As with the old exhibition, this is an interactive space where guides conduct visitors through the story of the Bible and some archaeological evidence, but ultimately, spreading the Good News of the Kingdom of God is our goal. For, (2 Timothy 3:16-18): 

ALL SCRIPTURE IS GIVEN BY GOD AND IS PROFITABLE FOR DOCTRINE, FOR REPROOF, FOR CORRECTION, FOR INSTRUCTION IN RIGHTEOUSNESS THAT THE MAN OF GOD MAY BE PERFECT, EQUIPPED UNTO ALL GOOD WORKS.


The Bible is God's only revealed message to mankind. He gave it in order to bring individuals into His divine family - people who think and act like His beloved Son. Written over a long period, by many writers, the Bible holds ONE message for mankind:
God is in control and He WILL work out His purpose with the earth, despite man arguing with Him every step of the way. 


2 Peter 1:19-21: Scripture is a light that shines in the darkness of the world. It is a Divinely inspired Book, not written by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit.  His entire plan and purpose is laid out in the Bible - EVERYTHING we need for salvation has been revealed for ALL to read.




Tyndale's Bible is credited with being the first English translation to work directly from Hebrew and Greek texts. His translations were banned and copies burnt. People died the most horrendous deaths and were tortured beyond human endurance (Read Hebrews 11) in order that we might open the scriptures. Are we bothering?

Bibles in the South African Bible Exhibition Collection (Bishops' Bible 1568)

The story of how the English bible came to us is miraculous, a slow outworking of many smaller miracles which finally came to fruition in the King James Bible of 1611.  In the South African Bible Exhibition Collection, the first ancient Bible under discussion is the Bishops’ Bible printed in 1568, under the authority of the church of England. It was revised in 1572 with the 1602 edition recommended as the base text of the 1611 King James Bible.  This particular edition is Coptic bound with 1/3 of the cross struts still intact. Unfortunately, the first 30 pages are missing, including the preface, prologue and order of the Psalms. Pronouncing Parallel Bible

Some monumental, and some unimportant - and things mostly forgotten happened in the world in 1890. For example,   The Sleeping Beauty , featuring the music of Tchaikovsky premiered in St Petersburg in Russia. The weather Bureau was established within the American Agricultural Department and the first railway ran in the Transvaal (the Randtram). Vincent van Gogh moved to Auvers-sur-Oise on the edge of Paris (under the care of Dr Paul Cachet) and he produced around 70 of his amazing works in ABOUT as many days. Although  the date is ABSOLUTELY uncertain, it is thought that the first scientific excavation in the Holy Land is undertaken, with Flinders Petrie. In this expedition he discovered how ‘tells’ – archaeological sites – are formed and the Prussian Otto von Bismark resigns – an action with further reaching consequences than then seen.
